What is the difference between aparecer and parece

Aparecer and parecer, what is the difference between them?
I think, maybe, it sounds like this:
aparecer = show up, appear, ...
parece = seem, look, look like, ...

here I found an example:
Él aparece siempre tarde, y me parece muy absurdo.
He always shows up late, and I think he looks very foolish.

Any other ideas or good sentences for that? lol
